Even though we’re in the business of selling homes, real estate and mortgage professionals are actually in the unique position of helping people build wealth. It doesn’t have to be about that one property – it can be us setting them up for a lifetime of really amazing benefits by approaching buying real estate as investing, and not just getting a roof over their heads. Steven wrote the book HOLD to help agents help their clients build wealth so they can evaluate deals, use creative methods to get into a home for less money, and then start working toward the next property and the next one so that they have wealth, a college fund and some cash flow down the line. Buying and selling a home is the perfect inflection point to have a conversation about creating financial security and showing how easy it is.

There’s a big difference between running a real estate business and having a professional practice. If you’re doing the work, you don’t have a business, and you also don’t have an asset for the future. For this to truly be a business, we need to create value, build systems and create a team around us so that we’re not the only ones delivering the service. The real estate industry doesn’t always teach us how to be business people, so it’s very important for that mindset to shift so we can level up.

With market conditions being what they are, there’s a ton of concern about whether or not this is a good time to buy. Even with the interest rates, this is actually still a great time to buy a home, especially if you know how to work the numbers. Property values will go up with the rate of inflation, so why wouldn’t you want to own an appreciating asset right now? There are two reasons to buy today – the property is cheaper today than it’s going to be tomorrow, and the interest rate is cheaper than it’s going to be tomorrow.
